Assistant Controller

This is a Full-time position in Acton, MA posted November 14, 2021.

Position title: Assistant Controller

Department: Finance/Accounting

Reports to: CFO


Assist in controlling accounting, budgeting, and regulatory compliance activity.

Perform duties required for payroll processing.



Assist in accounting for Circle Furniture’s assets and liabilities by:


Assisting in the ongoing improvement of accounting policies and procedures.


Assist in the preparation, accuracy and timely submission of all financial information and reports disclosed to the Officers and regulatory agencies.

This includes:

· Reconciling the Accounts Receivable, Customer Deposits, and Accounts Payable subsidiary ledgers.

· Reconciling all Circle Furniture bank accounts.

· Maintaining fixed asset history and depreciation.

· Keeping track of all notes payable and related interest expense.

· Preparing all necessary schedules for year-end review by external auditors.


Assist in preparing, interpreting and presenting financial reports to the senior management team.


Supervising cash receipts processing, reporting and overall accountability.


Supervising the accounts payable function.

Ensuring that all expenditures are properly approved, justified and charged to appropriate accounts.


Administration of the payroll function.

Ensuring that wage administration is performed accurately and in accordance with applicable labor laws.

Reconciling and determining the accuracy of sales commission reports.

Maintaining complete employee personnel records in accordance with applicable State and Federal laws.


Assist in functioning as internal auditor.

Reviewing audit/examination reports.

Initiating corrective actions as they relate to control issues.


Assist in researching, developing and improving accounting systems and procedures.


On-going improvement of paper flow and information flow by Interacting with Management, Team Leaders and Team members.


Assist in Identifying, establishing and reporting on key performance indicators.


Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.

Ensure highest level of quality service to external and internal customers of Circle Furniture.
Determine means to improve practices and procedures.
Ensure financial records are in order and accurate.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting or finance or equivalent experience.

Must be capable of staff supervision.

Must have knowledge of computer software applications, accounting practices and principles.

Must possess good communication/presentation skills.

Physical Demands/Conditions Requirements:

Ability to travel from store to store; Ability to plan, create and conduct presentations to officers, management and employees; general office environment.
