Chief Financial Officer

Position Purpose

A leading role within a dynamic nonprofit that delivers volunteer-powered relief to communities impacted by natural disasters.

The position is full-time and is responsible for leading and overseeing the Financial, Accounting, Auditing, Banking, Budgeting, Insurance (co-responsible), Payroll (co-responsible), Rating (co-responsible) functions/activities, and legal compliance for the organization.

Serves as a business partner to the CEO and other members of the leadership team.

Reports to: CEO
Roles reporting to position: Manager of Business Analysis, Controller (Comptroller)
Approximate number of reports: 8-10

Essential Functions
Responsible for:
Budgeting/ Forecasting: Establishing Revenue, Program and non-Program spending and Cash budgets and updated projections for the organization and all departments.
Financial Analysis: Work with Development, Operations and other departments to provide analytical support around program operations, development proposals and special project analyses as required.
Accounting: Ensure all accounting functions and processes-AP, AR, Vendor payments, Monthly close processes, and Tallie expense management-are properly executed and adhere to established procedures and legal requirements.
Payroll / Staff Compensation: Work with People Development to establish fair and equitable compensation plan(s), ensure that staff payments are processed accurately, timely and are properly classified as to program or department.
Audit: Work closely with the external auditors to ensure that the financial statements properly reflect the business activities of the organization, standard acceptable accounting practices are followed, and the integrity of AHAH operations is maintained.

Ensure AHAH Financials annual achieves a clean opinion with no material deficiencies noted.

Prepare annual functional expense analysis in conjunction with the requirements established by the external auditor.
Act as point person for all Banking and Investment relationships and ensure those relationships provide AHAH the sufficient cash resources to execute its operational plan.
Insurance / risk management: Work with Operations, People Development and other departments as required to ensure that AHAH has established a cost effective insurance portfolio that can protect AHAH from existential risks and provide a level of safety and support to staff and volunteers as determined by senior management.
Board / Finance Committee: Keep the Board and its Finance committee informed as to the actual and projected financial performance of the organization per the regular cadence established by the Board.
Impact Fund: Work with the Board approved management of the Impact Fund and provide quarterly performance updates to the Board Finance Committee.
Leadership Team: Work with CEO and fellow LT members to set the annual Organizational OKRs and Financial performance goals.
Legal: Work with external counsel and appropriate departmental heads to properly develop and execute various legal documents required in the course of AHAH business.
This is an off program/ remote role.

We do not require our off-program staff members to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but unvaccinated staff members are not permitted to travel to any of our program bases.

Unvaccinated individuals may attend in person meetings, but must wear a face covering over their nose and mouth throughout.
Perform other duties as required.

Financial Responsibilities
Responsible for the organization as a whole and the Finance department in particular.

Position Requirements
Education: BA/BS in Business, Accounting, Math or Liberal Arts; CPA or MBA designation preferred.
Related Experience: Manager of Business Analysis, Financial Consultant, Manager of F & A.
Special Competencies/Certifications: Good written and oral communication skills.

Confident working with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and financial technology .

Applicants need to be well organized and have a flexible approach to managing multiple tasks and prioritizing them appropriately.

The individual is able to manage a large workload and perform in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment/Conditions: Off-program position that will entail periodic program visits (as pandemic conditions allow.)
Location: Most of our Finance team is based in Mattapoisett, MA.

The CFO can be remote-based but would likely need to spend 2 days in the Mattapoisett office each week.

Thus, being based in the region would be preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
Compensation Typical starting range: $85,000
– $95,000, which will be based on skills and experience.

Annual performance based pay increases may be available, up to a salary maximum of $116,000 for U.S.

based employees.
