SummaryThe Richard and Sheila Young School of Nursing’s Graduate Program is seeking applicants for a full-time assistant or associate professor of nursing position with a specialty in psychiatric mental health for a January 2021 start date. Candidates must possess the ability to teach through traditional modalities to online learning platforms. Primary responsibilities include serving as an active nursing faculty member who is nationally certified in the adult psychiatric mental health specialty concentration and providing direct oversight for curriculum development and evaluation of that specialty concentration in addition to the responsibilities of a faculty member. Reporting the assistant dean of graduate nursing, this role teaches nursing students admitted at various entry points, advises students, performs course evaluation and development, and engages in committee work and service to the department, university, and community. A doctoral degree in nursing or related field (e.g., DNP/PhD/EdD) is preferred. An MSN degree and active unencumbered nurse practitioner licensure and certification is required.Functions* Teaches in the graduate nursing program throughout the year, with a minimum teaching load of 24 units per year (12 months).* Coordinates all aspects of curriculum implementation including course development and program advancement as well as annual curriculum review and revisions.* Maintains current accurate syllabi for specialty concentration courses.* Provides summary of course, faculty and preceptor/mentor evaluations to the program director/assistant dean.* Participates in the clinical placement process with the clinical placement team, placement coordinator, clinical faculty and students in securing clinical placements, as needed.* Collaborates with the Assessment and Outcome Committee and program director in maintaining evaluation findings for accreditation.* Participates in accreditation processes.* Refers student issues to program director, academic student advisor, or student advisors, as appropriate.* Advises students in the graduate program.* Assures the standardization of resources available to students on the educational platform.* May assist, as needed, with the recruitment, interviewing, recommendation, and hiring of faculty for academic and/or administrative appointments.* Problem solves and provides oversight in psychiatric mental health courses.* Maintains ongoing, clear, and consistent communication with students, the assistant dean, program directors, and others as necessary.* Maintains active licensure and certification in nursing and advanced practice specialty, as appropriate.* Maintains expertise in the applied teaching methodologies for the program.* Participates in Young School of Nursing meetings and university meetings, as required.* Performs institutional service per Faculty Handbook guidelines.Additional InformationRequirements* Master’s degree required; earned doctoral degree preferred.* Registered Nurse in Massachusetts with a master’s degree in nursing.* Active and unencumbered RN/APRN licensure.* Certification as APRN, CNE.* Ability to uphold the university’s commitment to inclusive excellence in a diverse learning community.* Experience in writing grants, scholarly papers and/or other related scholarly activities.* Two or more years of immediate teaching experience; 2 years of experience teaching in graduate education preferred.* Commitment to community and professional service and ability to serve as a university and program advocate for faculty, students, and external professional organizations.Working Conditions/Physical Demands* Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in temperature, noise, odors, etc.* Work remotely, as deemed appropriate by senior leadership* May spend extended periods at terminal, on telephone, or operating other office machines, requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to do this job.
