1, 2021 nn nn POSITION SUMMARY: nn nnThe Program in Digital Medicine & Clinical Research Core is a sponsored academic program aimed at advancing digital medicine and galvanizing digital medical research innovation.

Under the direction of the Chair for the Department of Medicine, this position will be responsible for scientific/quality project co-development, implementation and management, financial planning, report preparation, and presentation.

The Scientific Director will be closely involved with the Chair in projects that span the UMass Medical School and University of MA Healthcare system.

The Director will be responsible for developing and maintaining key strategic partnerships around data science and digital medicine and will be a key driver of programmatic success.nn nnAdditional responsibilities include coordinating and planning all day-to-day activities for the Program, helping to establish and manage a new Digital Medicine Fellowship, and helping to develop and grow the Program’s services.

The Scientific Director will manage project plans; establishing program budgets and resolving any oversight of program expenses; writing grant proposals, working with Office of Technology in developing intellectual property in contracts, drafting written progress reports to external funding agencies; assisting with developing research proposal budgets; collaborating on the design, development, and coordination of the Program’s efforts in workforce development, and broadening participation (for example through the creation of a new invited lecture series).nn nn ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: nn Responsible for implementing the digital medicine strategy aimed at transforming clinical care and patients’ outcomes and experience through digital tools.

Collaborates to drive timely data generation and dissemination of digital research and quality initiatives, including but not limited to decentralized clinical trials, telemedicine, remote digital patient monitoring and digital biomarkers/endpoints.

Maintains an in-depth understanding of the strategy for the Program in Digital Medicine and relevant clinical, research and patient’s needs, while ensuring to understand key trends and shifts in the external healthcare landscape.

Works directly with clinical teams, administrators, researchers within the Program and other colleagues across UMass Medical School/UMass Memorial Medical Center to lead programs and projects that digitally transform healthcare locally and nationally Helps to administer the new Program and is intimately involved in day-to-day operations of the Program Remains up to date on current and future state of digital health technology landscape and regulatory policies Provide tactical planning in the identification and development of new initiatives with stakeholders and leadership peers Work with the various business entities in industry and other healthcare organizations to execute contracts and research agreements Design, execute, and monitor plans and tactics that incorporate digital medicine, including but not limited to: data generation, design and implementation of digital interventions, manage thought leader interactions, sponsored and supported trials and exploratory data analysis, publications, medical content creation and review, scientific exchange/engagement and scientific communications/collaborations, medical education, scientific congress planning and support, evaluate, synthesize, and visualize clinical and economic data and develop written scientific communication Works to create a Digital Medicine Lecture Series and coordinates speakers Works collaboratively with other areas in the organization to ensure that the projects / pilots include patient’s perspective and aligns to the molecule’s strategic objectives Will proactively partner with health information technology and Data Science teams to drive business partner objectives Responsible for engaging with health informatics, school information technology, the Chief Research Informatics Officer, data managers and statistical partners to support partnerships accordingly by connecting to the right expertise and resources to successfully deliver against strategic objectives internally and externally.

nn REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: nn Master’s Degree required, Advanced Clinical/Science Degree highly preferred (e.g.

PharmD, PhD, MD) or relevant experience 5-10 years’ related experience required.

Pharmaceutical/biotechnology/academic relevant experience preferred
– preferably in Medical Affairs or product development Experience required in digital health, working within industry or academic teams on digital/technology implementation Project and team management expertise required Experience in clinical trial operations and the principles/techniques of data analysis, interpretation and clinical relevance, and medical writing Understanding of the patient journey, clinical care coordination and implementation of digital health tools into clinical practice workflow Proven record in developing strong relationships with external constituents (therapeutic area experts, external organizations, etc.) preferred Proven track record of meeting or exceeding objectives and goals Proven cross functional leadership experience and track record of successful leadership without direct authority Experience in agile / new creative ways of working Strong customer orientation/focus Ability to flex and thrive in an ambiguous environment undergoing transformational change Works well within teams and is effective in collaborating with others internally and externally Analytical and problem-solving capabilities and skills.

Has demonstrated the ability to anticipate and solve problems of moderate complexity and scope e.g.
