Senior Hardware Quality Engineer

Dive into an empowered role managing hardware and firmware quality of Sensors and Gateways.

You will be familiar with all parts of our hardware and firmware—high precision sensors, low power radios, cellular modems, robust mechanical cases, and power efficient algorithms and protocols.

You will enable the optimal utilization of our agile hardware/firmware team members developing cutting-edge hardware by helping ensure SmartSense offers reliable, high quality devices.

To do so, you’ll exercise judgment every day working with our amazing hardware, firmware, and mechanical engineers to make tradeoffs between what we build and how we build it and when we have trade-offs to make.

You will push the team to build complex, power-efficient, robust, and secure systems and have significant influence on the fire hose of value we deliver to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
Responsible for establishing and maintaining hardware quality key performance indicators (KPIs); product quality and work with our offshore CMs to drive continuous improvement.  Create and execute methodologies to improve Hardware Quality, manage and communicate processes and metrics to the team and stakeholders e.g.

CMs, key vendors; Supply Chain and Customer Success.

Formulate, review, and execute quality test procedures to capture and address hardware quality issues.

Closely collaborate with design engineers in EVT, DVT and MVT phases of new product development making sure quality is baked-into products from the very beginning of product development.

Continuously track RMA trends and own corrective actions funneling back in design and manufacturing as necessary.

Champion test automation and test data collection of hardware products in an accelerated and repeatable manner; building and maintaining test fixtures Help define and execute firmware regression testing; collaborating with Software Quality on Continuous Integration servers, and other infrastructure e.g.

TestRail needed for firmware QA.

Experience and Professional Competencies
5+ years of relevant work experience hardware and firmware quality Background and experience in battery-powered wireless device test automation Hardware Regulatory and Compliance e.g.

FCC, CE, UL, NSF etc.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to coach junior engineers Experience in embedded hardware QA with working knowledge in some of the following: –
– Hardware test automation tools to capture and analyze manufacturing test data

– Automated firmware testing, integration and delivery


– Electrical, Mechanical and Firmware acceptance test planning


– Wireless Communication protocols e.g.

Bluetooth, ZigBee, LoRa


– Cellular modem technologies such as 3G, 4G LTE etc.

Qualifications
Certified Six Sigma Practitioner is a plus Experience working in an agile organization Familiarity with hardware product design, adaptability, team first attitude 5+ years of embedded hardware Quality management experience, IoT Device experience is a plus
