This position works on site at the Everett Hospital.
The Health Information Management (HIM) Department performs a variety of duties to maintain patient records and to provide records to clinical departments and patients.
Summary
The HIM Operations and Project Specialist is responsible for supporting general HIM operational functions under the general supervision of the Sr. Director of HIM and Director of Coding. The incumbent will perform ongoing tasks including medical record review, quality reviews, HIM Committee organization and the (MD) delinquent record suspension protocol. They will act as a liaison between the Health Information Management Director and other departments/services for all hospital and clinic locations.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitors and coordinates medical record compliance with the CMS, Joint Commission, HIPAA, state and federal agency requirements and regulations as they relate to CHA operations including documentation reviews (medical record content and quality review).
• Acts as a liaison between the Health Information Management Director and other departments/services for all hospital and clinic locations.
• Executes problem identification, data gathering and implementation of strategic actions that are in the best interest of the departments and their mission, vision, values and philosophy.
• Revises departmental policies and procedures necessary for effective, efficient and compliant systems and management of human resources.
• Establishes specific and necessary planning, control and quality improvement mechanisms that monitor the implementation of specialized HIM specific projects in conjunction with the Sr. Director of HIM.
• Collects, organizes and submits data for required reporting to specified committees and groups (HIM, HPIC, Joint Commission Accreditation, IT metrics, HIM Leadership, Quality/Risk, Privacy Advisory, and other)
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. High school diploma and other course work in HIM courses required.
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Assistant (CCA) preferred.
Two to five years of experience as a technical specialist or supervisor in a Medical Record or Health Information Management Department preferred.
Must have experience in hospital information systems (health information Management/medical record applications).
Medical record content review and JCAHO survey experience strongly preferred.
