Would you like to be part of a team that helps decarbonize buildings and prepare for a zero-carbon electricity supply through equipment retrofit, energy efficiency, and other technologies?

DNV Markets & Risk’s Engineering and Technology department is seeking a Senior Energy Engineer to join our Technology team. The Technology team supports clients with technical advisory, consulting, research, and thought leadership on clean energy technologies and services (i.e., building decarbonization, energy efficient equipment, electrification (fuel switching, smart buildings, distributed energy systems, electric vehicle preparation), distributed energy systems, hydrogen production, transportation and usage, carbon capture, transport and storage, and energy storage).We are seeking a candidate who is flexible, an abstract thinker and can independently solve problems and work with key clients. Candidate will execute engineering and consulting project assignments. Types of projects could include technical reviews of HVAC, lighting, and other technologies; energy efficiency program implementation and evaluation; independent technology and feasibility studies; facility energy audits in the commercial, industrial and residential sectors; and hydrogen economy and energy storage research activities. Successful candidates must have demonstrated expertise in multiple energy technologies, be capable working independently, and have strong written and verbal communication skills.

**This is a remote position based out of any location in the continental U.S.**

What You’ll Do

  • Act as project manager, coordinating resources and personnel within the constraints of time and budget to achieve project objectives
  • Identify and quantify the impacts of energy technologies, such as energy efficiency improvements to buildings
  • Perform third party review of complex energy efficiency measures, and perform inspections, and deploy monitoring equipment to verify successful operation of installed measures
  • Follow quality assurance protocols, conduct peer-reviews, and produce client-ready analyses and reports
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of measurement & verification plans and the completion of M&V reports
  • Respond to client needs and opportunities, including preparation of statements of work, responses to Requests for Qualifications/Proposals, and writing of grant applications for Clean Technology collaborations
  • Function in a team environment to cooperatively achieve DNV and project goals

Typical client’s activities include

  • Utility energy efficiency and electrification programs who deploy public funds to incentivize high efficiency equipment in the commercial, industrial, and residential building sectors and underserved communities
  • Private companies committed to achieving decarbonization targets
  • Building controls manufacturers who need technical verification and independent measurement support during demonstrations and pilots
  • State and local communities working to achieve carbon reduction goals in response to climate change through strategy development and implementation

Position Qualifications

What is Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Architectural Engineering or related field required; Associates degree will be considered only when paired with additional relevant project experience
  • 8 or more years of related professional work experience required; with a master’s degree satisfying two years toward this threshold
  • Specialized working knowledge of at least a subset of these clean energy technologies: commercial, industrial, and/or residential building energy efficiency technologies such as HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, lighting technologies and controls, building management systems, electric vehicles; electrification (fuel switching, smart buildings, distributed energy systems, electric vehicle preparation); distributed energy systems; hydrogen production, transportation and usage, carbon capture, transport and storage; energy storage
  • Experience in energy related markets relevant to decarbonization, through demand side energy management, renewable generation, and/or grid modernization
  • Demonstrated project management experience for complex projects, consulting skills and team leadership experience
  • Positive team-oriented attitude and professional demeanor
  • An organized, detail-oriented approach and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel, up to 20% of the time
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to rent and drive a car and travel on public conveyances when required
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent technical written and verbal English communication skills

What is Preferred

  • Related professional certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP), Accredited Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), LEED Green Associate
  • Grant writing experience
  • Specialized knowledge of indoor agriculture energy efficiency
  • Familiarity with data analytics and complex energy models
  • Experience with Python or other coding languages

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, DNV provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.
