Director of Behavior Science Apply to This Job

We are looking for a hands-on Director of Behavioral Science to lead, support, and train our growing Research Team. You will help Company by guiding and digging in with our Behavioral Scientists, UX Researchers, and Product Analysts, to design, field, analyze and report out on interviews, experiments and interventions. As part of a cross-functional team, you will direct research collaborations within product, across client organizations, and more broadly in society.

  • Be a leader for all things research including the design, fielding and analysis for RCTs, A/B tests, surveys, user research, etc. across Company products and for client engagements
  • Design, execute, and analyze experiments to test your ideas, in partnership with research, the broader product organization and our data science team
  • Guide and work with our researchers:
  • Behavioral scientists on quantitative behavioral interventions and experiments to increase civic engagement
  • UX team to understand user needs, goals, and experiences to create product features and content
  • Product analysts to design and implement quantitative validation studies for new products and features
  • Provide input to engineering and product as we build the capacity for rapid-fire experimentation into the platform, including defining requirements for instrumentation and measurement
  • Learn quickly from experiments to put forward new hypotheses, including identifying opportunities to improve our products and client offerings
  • Represent the research team on client calls, presentations and other engagements
  • Help the team achieves business, revenue and client satisfaction milestones
  • Conduct literature reviews and maintain up-to-date knowledge of academic research and market trends related to advocacy, civic engagement, voting, policy, campaigning, etc. to share with Company and partner organizations.
  • Collaborate to develop and implement hands-on workshops, seminars, and other educational activities for Company focused on research
  • Contribute to Company ‘s knowledge library including ensuring all research activities are properly captured and insights are shared broadly
  • Improve data literacy across the organization and drive a culture of data-driven decision making

You have:

  • Deep expertise in the design, fielding and analysis of rigorous research using a scientific approach; ideal candidate might have a PhD in experimental psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, behavioral economics, political science, applied behavior analysis, or closely related field
  • 8+ years leading research teams
  • Significant work experience outside of academia designing and conducting research in a client-facing or consulting capacity where you are personally working directly with clients
  • Competency with statistical software and programming applications (e.g., SAS, Stata, R, Python), visualization technologies/libraries (e.g., Tableau, D3, GoogleCharts) and experimental platforms (e.g. Optimizely, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude)
  • A visible passion for experimentation
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

You might have:

  • An understanding of political processes and campaign culture
  • Proven experience working on product teams
  • Competency in general purpose programming (Python, Java, or C)
  • Strong capabilities around data sourcing, management, and merging that includes working with disparate data sets, including running queries and reports (e.g., SQL)
  • Knowledge of technology and how to use technology and online tools in innovative ways
  • Ability to provide samples or portfolio of relevant work
