This is a highly technical leadership position in Insulet’s R&D organization, responsible for leading global data science and advanced algorithm developments.

A major aspect of this role is to provide thought leadership, direction, and executing the development of all big data, machine learning/artificial intelligence, and algorithm development efforts across the global company.

This role will lead data science and algorithms teams, and work closely with IT partners in cloud infrastructure, data architecture, and data lake development.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a highly advanced technical skillset in big data, data science, and algorithm design, as well as leadership background and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.

Specifically, this leader will connect the execution of top-tier data science and algorithm design with an understanding of their impacts across multiple facets of the business, and will drive the deployment of these technologies into actionable processes, insights, or products for internal or external use.

This position is intended for an individual with an advanced data science and algorithms background, with strong leadership experience and business acumen.Responsibilities: Lead the data science and algorithm engineering teams, to execute high quality deliverables per Insulet’s digital roadmapFully leverage data capabilities for data as a product, and actionable insights for internal and external use casesLead the technical development of global large-scale new data science implementations, platforms, machine learning/AI models, and the creation of an industry leading ecosystemDevelop deep insights into patients with diabetes that result in actions that may be used to improve outcomesBuild business cases to develop/acquire new datasets, and data science and analytics tools or technologiesWork with IT and Legal to meet data science objectives while ensuring compliance with relevant GDPR, CPA, and HIPAA regulationsInterface with IT and cross functional teams as a core member of the data governance team, to identify data sources, design data cleaning scripts as needed, and self-serve tools to deploy in the businessGuide the use of cloud computing technologies for building and deploying automated machine learning and analytics pipelines, such as Azure, AWS, GCP, etc.Evaluate and deploy new technologies as appropriateExplore and guide the exploration of data patterns using existing data science tools and self-created programsLeverage best practices and innovations using both control theory and statistical learning models where best appropriate, to improve the algorithmic delivery of insulinInnovation leader in deploying highly performant machine learning, AI, and algorithms models across highly connected systems that span cloud, mobile, and microprocessor-controlled devicesDirect, organize, and control approved annual expense budgetsMentor data scientists in performing hypothesis-driven statistical analyses on big data, predictive modeling, and generating automated alerting and reporting as required.Clearly communicate highly technical findings to a broad audience, in relation to business objectives.Maintain appropriate communications within Insulet business functions and external data partners to support Insulet’s growth of data as a product, and for internal or external actionable insightsWork collaboratively and cross-functionally to build data science tools and products to improve outcomes for people with diabetesDrive accountability, consistency, quality, functional excellence, standardization and discipline across data science and algorithms functionsDrive rigor and continuous improvement in data products at InsuletEducation and Experience:PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computational Neuroscience, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field is required.12+ years of work experience on machine learning, artificial intelligence, or statistical inferences.Demonstrated success in innovating and deploying human-centered data science and algorithmic toolsExperience leading data science and algorithm engineering teams in a fast-paced environmentProven business acumen with general management perspectiveExperiences in medical device or healthcare industries is desirableSkills/Competencies: Passion for improving the lives of people with diabetesAbility to influence, motivate, attract, and lead a team to realize a vision and drive a culture of innovationRelentless focus on execution of data science and algorithms projects of varying scopesBroad knowledge of systems and applications development technologies, with specific experience in Python, Matlab, SQL, PySpark, Git, and big data analyticsBroad knowledge of business intelligence tools, such as Spotfire, Tableau, Cognos.Knowledge of diabetes pathophysiology, insulin signaling, and/or human physiologyExperience in a large global environmentInclination to seek and analyze data from a variety of sources to support decisions and to align others with the organization’s overall strategyAn entrepreneurial and creative approach to developing new, innovative ideas that will stretch the organization and push the boundaries within the industryComfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty;
