Description
The Sr. Director, Credit Risk Consumer Unsecured Lending owns the execution of the Personal Loans and Credit Card risk management, creating and disseminating credit risk policies, procedures, and standards and developing and directing the implementation of a credit risk management strategy which optimizes profitability whilst minimizing risk exposure and maintaining compliance. S/he represents the second line of defense and drives the culture of credit risk awareness across the organization.
- Builds operating policies and processes, evaluation of policies processes, and reviews control/quality assurance programs for the Credit Risk Management department
- Communicates to senior leadership emerging risks that present new regulatory fraud, or money laundering risks
- Develops and directs the implementation of a credit risk management strategy, optimizing profitability whilst minimizing credit risk exposure
- Develops and implements credit risk policies, procedures, and standards
- Develops and prepares related risk reporting in support of business risk priority and review meeting cadence
- Develops new approaches to manage and/or mitigate credit risk
- Develops organization wide key credit risk and early warning indicators
- Drives culture of credit risk awareness and develops operational credit risk training materials
- Drives initiatives around market research, points-of-view, capability, development and thought capital knowledge management
- Identifies key credit risks exposures and assesses mitigating controls to determine the risk profile for the organization
- Identifies material individual, aggregate and emerging risks; communicates findings to senior leadership
- Influences challenging material credit risk decisions
- Liaisons with Credit Risk managers to facilitate and challenge that the first line of defense is appropriately managed, controlled and accurately reporting its operational risk profile/exposure
- Monitors the risk-taking activities and risk exposures to ensure they are in line with board-approved risk appetite, risk limits, and corresponding capital or liquidity needs
- Oversees and manages the Credit Risk department ensuring quality measures of strategic design and risk mitigation.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree; Accounting, Business, Statistics, Information Systems, Finance, Economics or equivalent field required
Master’s Degree; Accounting, Business, Statistics, Information Systems, Finance, Economics or equivalent field or equivalent work experience preferred
12-15 years; Credit Risk Management experience within Financial Industry with unsecured lending portfolios (personal loans and credit cards), including experience dealing with U.S. regulatory agencies,9-12 years; Management/Leadership experience
Ability to influence beyond immediate teams in order to fully implement the credit risk management program
Ability to multi-task, prioritize activities, manage conflicts of interest, delegate and meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced environment
Ability to negotiate and compromise
Advanced credit and risk, process, and control validation and/or assessment skills
Advanced knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations, especially those of regulatory entities that perform oversight of the banking industry
Capability to sponsor, direct and deliver improvements and corrective action programs
Demonstrated skill at building, leading and managing high-performance Credit Risk teams
Demonstrated track record of success in structuring, monitoring, and risk rating of matrix organizational structure
Excellent oral and written communication skills to influence peers and BUs and interact effectively with senior management and regulators
Expert level understanding and practice in Credit Risk Policies, procedures, regulations and applicable law
Proficient at managing disparate stakeholders with differing interests, including strong negotiation skills
Sound understanding of the tools and methodologies used to measure and quantify risk, including but not limited to, the use of credit models to forecast losses and measure counterparty credit risk
Strong experience with Credit Risk underwriting practices, credit risk assessment (including Financial Institutions risk) and US Bank regulations
Minimal physical effort such as sitting, standing, and walking
